Athlone town cricket club taste success at Roscommon tournament

Athlone Titans, representing Athlone Town Cricket Club, claimed the championship title at the Roscommon Cricket Club Season 2 Hard Tennis Ball Tournament, held last Saturday.

The tournament featured 12 competitive teams from across Ireland, including Roscommon Strikers, Roscommon Smashers, Dreams XI Athlone, Galway Indians, Turboz Tullamore, Sligo Titans, Galway Tuskers, Charlestown Millennium, Shamrock Spartans, Knock United, and South XI United Limerick.

Athlone Titans produced an outstanding performance throughout the day, winning four of five matches to secure the championship.

The semi-final and final proved to be closely contested, low-scoring encounters. Athlone's disciplined bowling attack and sharp fielding enabled them to successfully defend modest totals under pressure, demonstrating the team's resilience and tactical awareness.

Every squad member played an important role, contributing with either the bat, ball, or in the field.

The team's success was also reflected in the individual honours, with Athlone Titans players dominating the awards - Player of the Tournament: Kaleem Ullah (Athlone Titans), Best Batsman: Irfanullah Ibrahimkhel (Athlone Titans), Best Bowler: Chaminda Amarasinghe (Athlone Titans).

The championship-winning squad consisted of Lankesh CR, Rakesh Koya, Subhash Reddy, Khpalwak Mommand, Danish Khan, Salman Babar, Kaleem Ullah, Irfanullah Ibrahimkhel, Chaminda Amarasinghe, Santhosh Reddy, and captain Vinod Pradeep.

In addition to lifting the championship trophy, Athlone Titans were awarded a €600 cash prize.

The club also expressed its sincere appreciation to its sponsors, and thanked everyone who contributed to making the season and the tournament victory possible.
