Athlone to face league rivals in FAI Cup semi-finals

Athlone Town FC women's team has been drawn to play Galway United in the Club Orange Women's FAI Cup semi-finals.

The draw was made today (August 4) after the quarter-finals took place over last weekend.

Cup holders Athlone defeated Shamrock Rovers 5-3, after a thrilling match that went into extra-time, while Galway beat Sligo Rovers (also after extra-time).

In the other semi-final, Cork City will host 2024 winners Shelbourne at Munster FA Turner’s Cross Stadium.

Athlone's meeting with Galway with come with some added spice, as the two are currently doing battle at the top of the League of Ireland Women's Premier Division.

The Town's only league defeat of the season to date came in an away match against Galway.

The semi-final matches are due to take place on Saturday, August 22.
