Do not swim notice at popular local recreational spot

Westmeath County Council has placed a Do Not Swim order at Lilliput on Lough Ennell.

In a post on its website, the council said that results of bathing water samples taken on Monday, September 7, indicate that Lilliput, Lough Ennell, was "experiencing elevated levels of bacteria resulting in ‘Poor’ water quality".

The council said, as a result, it had erected a temporary ‘Do Not Swim’ notice.

Westmeath County Council Environment Section staff have resampled the bathing area and results will be available on Thursday
