Dates and times confirmed for Westmeath club football semi-finals
The dates and times for the respective Westmeath senior and intermediate football championship semi-finals have been confirmed.
The sole remaining South Westmeath club in this year's quest for the Flanagan Cup, Moate All Whites, will play reigning champions, The Downs, in the opening senior football championship final in TEG Cusack Park on Saturday, September 26, at 4.15pm.
The All Whites 4-11 to 2-14 win over Athlone in a dramatic quarter-final means Val Daly's charges will contest their first senior championship semi-final since 1997, when the club last lifted the Flanagan Cup.
The Downs, with Luke Loughlin restored to the starting line-up following an extended period of injury, will prove doughty opponents. The North Westmeath club remain undefeated in this year's championship and Dermot Power's team will be deemed favourites to advance to the final.
The second senior football championship final, between Coralstown/Kinnegad and St Loman's will take place at the Mullingar venue on Sunday, September 27, at 4.15pm.
Championship draw specialists, St Loman's overcame the challenge of Tubberclair after extra-time in their quarter-final fixture, and will be hoping for a repeat of the 2023 senior football championship quarter-final result when they saw off the challenge of their semi-final opponents to lift the Flanagan Cup.
Under the guidance of former Westmeath senior football manager, Jack Cooney, Coralstown/Kinnegad topped Section A in this year's championship and remain undefeated as they aim to return to the county final following last year's final loss to The Downs.
Similar to Moate All Whites in the senior football championship, Rosemount are the sole South Westmeath club representing at the same stage of this year's intermediate football championship.
Karl Dermody's team open the weekend of semi-final championship action when they play Milltown in TEG Cusack Park on Saturday, September 26, at 2pm.
The 'black and amber' will be hoping to secure a place in the final of a competition they last won in 2016.
Shandonagh, big winners over Ballinagore in their quarter-final outing, return to knockout championship action on Sunday, September 27, when they face St Malachy's in the second intermediate football championship semi-final in the Mullingar venue at 2.30pm.
