Roscommon sisters in semi-final action at major boxing championships

Roscommon sisters, Aoife and Lisa O'Rourke, will be aiming to upgrade the colour of their medals when they return to the boxing ring at the European Elite Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, this evening.

The siblings both advanced from their quarter-final bouts on Tuesday and having secured bronze medals in the process, they now go in search of a place in the final of their respective weight competitions.

Boxing in the 75kg category, Aoife, now a five time continental medallist, faces Russia's Saltanat Medenova, a 2025 IBA world champion, for a place in the final bout. The contest is due to get underway at 4.45pm.

Meanwhile, Lisa, who is boxing at 80kgs, will contest for a place in the final against Ukraine's Iryna Lutsak. The Ukrainian is a multiple European U23 medallist and will provide strong opposition for the Roscommon boxer in a match which is due to start at 5pm.
