Plan for new Tesla EV Charging Hub at busy Athlone retail park

By Rebekah O'Reilly

Plans have been submitted for a new Tesla EV Charging Hub at Athlone's Kilmartin N6 Centre.

The planning application was submitted by Tesla Motors Ireland Limited on Friday, September 25.

The proposed development will consist of eight high-power electric vehicle charging points, 7 of which will be 4.8m deep and 2.75m wide, with one accessible bay which provides a 1.2m buffer zone to front and sides of the space. Each charging unit will be approximately 0.8m wide and 1.7m high.

Tesla branded illuminated charging units and associated signage, a Tesla supercharger power cabinet equipment, and a modular substation.

The erection of associated EV signage, and associated site development works including revisions to landscaping, surfacing and line marking are also part of proposals for the site.

In the documents, it is stated that the Tesla charging points can provide up to 100km of driving range in as little as six minutes. The vehicles can be charged by using a charge point card by swiping it across the screen to stop and start charging or via the Tesla application.

There are three ESB EV charging bays already located at the proposed site, which sits between Kilmartins Service Station and the Creggan Court Hotel.

A decision on the plan is due on Thursday, November 19.
