Athlone's Madison chosen for player of the month award
Athlone Town star Madison Gibson has been honoured with the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division Player of the Month award for September.
Gibson played a key role as Athlone secured the Women’s Premier Division title for the third year in a row.
The 29-year-old American contributed a goal and two assists in what was a flawless month for Athlone Town in terms of league action, with the midlanders winning three out of their three games en route to retaining their title.
Athlone Town head coach Lily Agg was full of praise for talented winger Gibson.
“Madison has been superb; I don’t think she realises how good she can be,” said Agg.
“I’ve challenged her to keep pushing to get better, her goals and assists are an added bonus to her recent performances for the team – with and without the ball.”
Interestingly, despite Athlone clinching a third successive league title and reaching the Women's FAI Cup final, Gibson is the first player from the club chosen for a player of the month award this season.
With the league title in the bag, Athlone have two more fixtures to play this season, the first of which is against Shelbourne - who defeated the Town in the recent FAI Cup final - on Saturday, October 17 at Tolka Park (7.35pm). Athlone's final game of the season is at home to Cork City on October 24 (5pm).
