Westmeath County Council has outlined details of a road closure to facilitate night-time resurfacing works in the Arcadia area of Athlone later this week.

The weather-dependent resurfacing work is currently scheduled to be completed on the nights of Thursday, October 15, and Friday, October 16.

The stretch of road affected is from one roundabout to another, between Temple Printing/Athlone Mixed NS and the Arcadia Retail Park.

Diversions are due to be in place while the work is being carried out by contractor Breedon Ltd.

Westmeath County Council said the works "will involve the removal and replacement of road pavement surface and base course materials".

It said traffic management measures, including temporary lane closures, would be in operation during the works.

"We ask all road users to exercise caution and follow all signage and traffic management instructions," said the local authority.

"Westmeath County Council regrets any inconvenience caused and thanks the public for their cooperation while these essential improvement works are carried out."
