Six-month watermain replacement project to begin in Kilbeggan town
Uisce Éireann has announced that a six-month project to replace nearly 3 kilometres of old and damaged watermains in Killbeggan will get underway early next month.
The utility said the work will be centred on the Dublin Road, between Inver filling station and Scoil an Chlochair, from the Coola Mill along the R389, through the Main Street, and at the Tullamore Road towards Seber House B&B.
At these locations, crews are to install 2.8 kilometres of new, modern pipes that are due to strengthen the local network and reduce disruption to homes and businesses.
Works will begin at the start of November and will include installing new water service connections from the public water main on the road to customers’ property boundaries.
Uisce Éireann said the existing pipes were prone to bursts and leaks, leading to supply interruptions and the loss of treated drinking water.
Welcoming the project, Dave Murphy of Uisce Éireann said that the upgrades would help stop leakage and give the community in Kilbeggan greater confidence in their water supply for years to come.
“Every pipe we replace is guided by one clear goal: providing a water supply people can count on," said Mr Murphy.
"These improvements make a difference every single day, in every tap, home and throughout the community.
"By focusing on delivering a more reliable supply, we’re helping to build a stronger, more resilient water service for the people of Kilbeggan, now and for generations to come."
The project is being delivered by Shareridge on behalf of Uisce Éireann with completion expected by the end of April 2027.
Uisce Éireann said it will have measures in place "to keep disruption to an absolute minimum" but added that a traffic management system would be in place during the works.
Local and emergency traffic will always be maintained, it added.
