€3m of illegal vapes and cannabis products seized after searches in Midlands and elsewhere
Gardai have announced the seizure of €3 million worth of illegal vapes and cannabis-based products following searches carried out in Roscommon, Longford, and other counties this week.
The raids, as part of Operation Tara, took place on Wednesday (October 14) and were carried out with the involvement of more than 100 Gardai.
They were part of an ongoing Garda operation targeting an organised crime group involved in the sale and supply of illegal vapes and cannabis products throughout the country.
Officers on behalf of the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) carried out the searches at properties in Longford, Mayo, Roscommon, Wexford and Carlow.
A statement from the Garda press office said the searches led to the seizure of "illegal vapes and cannabis-based products with an estimated street value totalling more than €3 million" along with "more than €235,000 in cash, £3,000 in sterling, $3,500 in US dollars and a number of high-value vehicles".
No arrests have been made at this stage, and Gardai said investigations were ongoing.
The seized products are to be sent to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis.
