Tang GAA to host major fundraising event this weekend

Tang GAA will host a Battle of the Bands lip sync fundraising event this weekend to support the development of a new pitch and facilities at the South Westmeath club.

Taking place in the Rustic Inn, Abbeyshrule, on Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24, Battle of the Bands will feature 12 community acts all of whom will grace the stage from 8pm on both nights.

A number of well known judges have been confirmed for the event, country singer, Cliona Hagan, comedian, Stephen 'Cowboy' Kelly, Westmeth senior football manager, Mark McHugh, Kevin 'Boxer' Moran TD, Cllr Tom Farrell and Niamh McCann (Egan) all offering their post act performance views.

Comedian Jimmy Jests will host the event, tickets for which are now only available for Friday night's performance.

Tang GAA has expressed its thanks to all volunteers who have made this weekend's Battle of the Bands possible.

"A big thank you to all the various acts representing their respective clubs and communities who have volunteered endless hours, over the last number of weeks to ensure that their act is stage ready.

"Your dedication is appreciated by all in Tang GAA and will ensure that the sold out attendances will cheer on your every move," the club said.

Tang GAA's acquisition of 6.75 acres of land in 2024, directly adjoining its current club facilities, looks set to have a transformational impact on the future of gaelic games at the club .

Chief amongst the club's development aspirations are a new full-sized GAA grass pitch, competition-grade floodlighting, a fully equipped gym, an astro pitch, a community centre with multi-purpose sports hall, a playground and shared community space and the expansion of an existing community walkway.

Tang GAA has set a fundraising target of €300,000 for the three phase development project.

"This development project is about creating safe, modern and inclusive facilities where players, families and the wider community can come together, stay active and belong," the club stated.
