Local duo star as Leinster crowned interprovincial champions in Athlone

Two talented local soccer stars played huge roles in this week's FAI Schools Under-15 Interprovincial Championships, which was held over three days at Athlone Town FC Stadium.

Mount Temple native Aimee Greene, from Moate Community School, wore the captain's armband as Leinster were crowned champions for a fourth year running. Aimee, who plays her club football with Athlone Town, helped Leinster to two wins and a draw to secure the title.

Former Skyvalley Rovers player Ava Hogan – also now part of Athlone Town's underage set-up – was also the fore in the tournament, with the brilliant Coláiste Chiaráin student netting three times in as many outings for Connacht. She was also captain for her province.

Coláiste Chiaráin student Ava Hogan was among the goals as Connacht performed extremely well at the FAI Schools U-15 Interprovincial Championships.

A total of 68 players represented Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster over the course of the competition, which is a trialling process for the International Schools team who participate in the Bob Docherty Cup annually.

Moate Community School has congratulated Aimee on her latest achievement in the game, after she also recently captained the Republic of Ireland at Under-15 level.

'It is a proud day for soccer in Moate Community School and we offer huge congratulations to Aimee.

It is a fantastic achievement and a proud moment for Aimee, her family, the soccer coaches here in Moate Community School and her clubs. It is well deserved for Aimee and we are incredibly proud of her', the school said.
