Power cut affecting thousands of residents in east Athlone

A power cut this afternoon (Wednesday) is currently affecting around 1,500 properties in parts of east Athlone.

The unplanned interruption to electricity supplies was first reported at 12.24pm according to the ESB's Power Check website, which lists the general Garrycastle area as the location where the fault originated.

Areas of Golden Island, in the town centre, are currently being impacted, with the power cut extending to some residential areas in Retreat and other eastern parts of the town.

The ESB's website states that 1,452 connections are currently without a power supply, and it lists 1.30pm as the estimated time for electricity to return in the affected areas.
