Athlone community and local businesses unite for Daffodil Day coffee morning
The Athlone community is once again coming together for one of the town’s most uplifting annual events tomorrow (Friday, March 20) – the Daffodil Day Coffee Morning in aid of the Irish Cancer Society, organised this year by well‑known local women Liz Gilhooly and Leah Fletcher of deDANU and Dunbar Pharma.
Following an incredible year in 2025, where a record €16,000 was raised for cancer research and support services, tomorrow's event takes place at the Sheraton Athlone Hotel from 10am to 2pm.
Liz, who has been organising the event for many years, has been busy baking and preparing for weeks. Known locally for her famous homemade treats, guests can once again look forward to a table full of freshly baked goods, along with tea, coffee and a warm welcome for everyone who attends.
The event continues to grow each year thanks to the support of the Athlone community and local businesses. The Sheraton Athlone Hotel has once again generously supported the event, providing additional space to accommodate the growing crowds.
In the lead‑up to Daffodil Day, fundraising has also been taking place across local schools. Leah Fletcher, from Athlone, co-ordinated beautiful deDANÚ hampers which were distributed to nine local schools to help them run their own fundraising raffles and activities.
Back at the Sheraton, a raffle will once again be a highlight of the morning, with a fantastic range of prizes donated by local businesses. Prizes this year include hampers and vouchers donated by Seery's Cash & Carry, Custom Cuts, and deDANÚ, along with food hampers and many more prizes.
The coffee morning supports the vital work of the Irish Cancer Society, which provides support services, transport to treatment, counselling, night nursing and funds life‑saving cancer research across Ireland.
Above all, the event has become known not just for its fundraising success, but for the wonderful atmosphere and community spirit it creates each year. Everyone is warmly invited to attend the 2026 Daffodil Day Coffee Morning on Friday, March 20 at the Sheraton Athlone Hotel.
