Moate CS athletes to the fore in Connacht and All-Ireland finals

It has been a remarkable athletics season for Moate CS, with students producing outstanding performances at both the Connacht Schools Athletics finals and All-Ireland Schools Track and Field Championship finals.

The Connacht finals, held in TUS Midlands, Athlone, saw MCS athletes compete across a range of events, bringing home an impressive collection of medals and showcasing the talent, determination, and dedication that continue to make the school proud.

Leading the way was Ally Duffy, who delivered an exceptional performance by claiming silver in the 1500m Steeplechase and bronze in the Intermediate girls 1500m. Her endurance and versatility were on full display throughout the competition.

Sprint star Lucy Champ enjoyed a hugely successful day, winning gold in the Senior girls 200m and adding a bronze medal in the 100m sprint. Her speed and consistency proved too much for many of her competitors.

MCS also celebrated relay success as Ally Duffy, Lucy Champ, Áine Bracken, and Eva Fox stormed to gold in the Senior girls 4 x 100m Relay, producing a superb team performance to secure first place and Connacht glory.

The athletes’ achievements earned qualification for the prestigious All-Ireland Schools Track & Field finals at the end of May, hosted by Tullamore Harriers, where they once again represented MCS with distinction.

At the national finals, Lucy Champ continued her excellent form, producing an outstanding run in the 200m sprint and recording a superb time of 25.92 against some of the strongest competition in the country.

The MCS relay team also delivered a memorable performance, achieving a new personal best of 52.85. The team consisted of Lucy Champ, Áine Bracken, Eva Fox, and Alex Kelly, who stepped in admirably for Ally Duffy and helped the quartet produce a fantastic result on the national stage.

These achievements are a testament to the athletes’ commitment, hard work, and perseverance throughout the season. Their performances have brought great pride to the entire MCS community and serve as an inspiration to younger athletes within the school.

The school extends congratulations to all involved on a fantastic season of athletics success. The future looks bright for MCS in track and field.
