A renewed appeal for information has been issued about the murder of a man found in Co Armagh 40 years ago.
The remains of Terence “Terry” McKeever, 30, were found close to Mullaghduff Bridge, Cullyhanna on June 16th 1986.
McKeever, originally from Armagh but living in Dublin, was the managing director of a family electrical contracting business based both north and south of the border.
The electrical company was involved in large contract works north and south of the border, which included army barracks, Garda and RUC stations.
Gardaí believe that he was abducted and fatally shot.
On Tuesday, gardaí appealed to anyone with any information they feel might be relevant to the investigation to get in contact.
McKeever left his home at Pembroke Road, Ballsbridge, in a champagne-coloured BMW 735i with the registration FIB 735.
He left at 6.50 am on June 16th 1986, and is believed to have travelled north along the N2 from Dublin.
It is believed that he was abducted in the vicinity of the Monaghan/south Armagh border area, or somewhere during his intended route which would have included the N2 from Dublin, passing through Slane, Ardee, Monaghan and continuing to Armagh town.
His remains were found near Mullaghduff Bridge, around 25 metres into Northern Ireland, on that day and the following day; on June 17th his car was found in Carnagh, Co Armagh.
On June 18th 1986, a blue Toyota Liteace van with stolen number plates UZY 125 was found abandoned on the N52 at Mapastown, Ardee, Co Louth.
Gardaí said it is believed to have been the vehicle used in the murder of McKeever.
The van had been stolen in Dundalk on May 21st 1986.
Gardaí are asking people if they have information about the van or the investigation.
“Do you have any information that may assist with the investigation?
“With the passage of time, some person may now be in a position to provide information to investigating Gardaí that they could not provide at the time, or maybe some person who did provide information at the time may be now in a position to provide further information.
“Gardaí encourage anyone who they may or may not have spoken to previously, to come forward.
“Investigating Gardaí are particularly interested in information on the following:
“Terence McKeever’s movements on the morning of 16th June 1986
“The theft and storage of a blue Toyota LiteAce van registration number 7533 KI (or the stolen registration number UZY 125 between 21st May 1986 and 18th June 1986.
“The movements of Mr McKeever’s champagne-coloured BMW 735i (registration FIB 735, which was subsequently found at Carnagh, Co Armagh on 17th June 1986).
“Anyone with information can contact Ardee Garda Station on 041 685 3222, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.”
