Water supply disruptions in Athlone due to burst water main
Water supply outages are being experienced across a large area of Athlone today as a result of a burst water main.
Uisce Éireann said its crews "were able to reduce the impact of the interruption by reconfiguring the network," but it added that areas affected included Athlone town, Bonnavalley, Killion Hill, Dublin Road, Fardrum, Gary Castle, Ardnaglug, Blyry and surrounding areas.
"Crews are on site, and it is estimated that repairs will be complete later this afternoon," said Uisce Éireann in a statement issued to media shortly before noon.
David Gibbons of Uisce Éireann said it was working to restore the water supply as quickly as possible.
"We acknowledge the inconvenience caused by unplanned outages and we thank affected customers for their understanding while our crews work to repair the burst and restore normal supply to their homes and businesses," said Mr Gibbons.
