Gardai issue public appeal over two South Westmeath burglaries

Gardai have appealed for witnesses to two rural burglaries which took place at houses in South Westmeath last week.

The incidents happened during daylight hours on Tuesday, June 30, and investigating Gardai believe both may be connected.

The first happened at Raheen Moyvoughley, Moate, between the hours of 8.30am and 3.40pm. The perpetrators forced entry and made their way through the house, which was unoccupied at the time, stealing cash and jewellery items.

A similar incident then occurred at a house in Kiltober, Rahugh, Kilbeggan, where entry was gained between 1pm and 11pm, and the property was ransacked.

An investigation into the two rural burglaries is being carried out by the detective unit at Athlone Garda Station.

A local Garda spokesperson said anyone who witnessed a vehicle acting suspiciously, or anything else that may be relevant, in either area last Tuesday is encouraged to come forward with those details.
