Renowned local musician honoured at gala event in England

Renowned country singer Brendan Shine, originally from Drum, Athlone was recently acknowledged for his contribution to Irish heritage at a gala event in Manchester, England.

Now living at Taughmaconell in south Roscommon, Shine was one of the recipients of the Pride of Éireann International Awards at the Deansgate Hotel.

The awards celebrates the achievements of exceptional individuals within the global Irish community who support Irish heritage.

The awards also recognises community groups, charities and businesses who have made an impact by helping or inspiring others within the global Irish community, and it raises funds and awareness for charities like Manchester Mind and the Toy Appeal.

Brendan Shine, a highly respected accordion player, is renowned for a lenghty career of musical success, having achieved 40 chart singles in Ireland and five Irish number one singles. He is perhaps best-known for his songs about everyday Irish life, including 'Do You Want Your Old Lobby Washed Down', 'Where the Three Counties Meet', and 'Carrots'.
