Frankie Dolan was part of the backroom management team that saw Wicklow achieve a historic Tailteann Cup win over Down in Croke Park

Frankie plays his part in Wicklow’s heroics

Former St Brigid’s and Roscommon star Frankie Dolan was involved with the Wicklow team which created history with a sensational Tailteann Cup final victory over Down last Saturday.

Dolan is part of Oisin McConville’s management team having been appointed to the role of selector in November 2024. It was a historic occasion for Wicklow at Croke Park, the Garden County men reeling in a 12-point half-time deficit to win a remarkable contest on a 1-21 to 2-16 scoreline.

They outscored Down by 1-17 to 0-6 in a terrific second-half display to claim victory. The Tailteann Cup victory ensures Wicklow a place in the Sam Maguire Cup in 2027.

Of course, Croke Park holds special memories for Dolan from his playing days with St Brigid’s. In 2013, the prolific forward scored the winning point against Ballymun Kickhams to secure the All-Ireland senior club title for the Kiltoom outfit.

The Wicklow selector has also had management spells with a number of clubs, including Rosemount, Doon, Roscommon Gaels and Abbeylara, in addition to his home club, St Brigid’s.
