Athlone Triathlon Club hails national aquathlon as 'huge success'
The local triathlon club has branded the Aquathlon National Championships, held in Athlone last Sunday, as 'a huge success'.
A total of 151 athletes took to the start line and the Athlone Triathlon Club said that they produced 'some fantastic racing from start to finish'.
The club said: 'Alongside the championships, Athlone Triathlon Club was delighted to welcome so many new faces to the River Fest Try-a-Tri, as part of the Athlone River Festival 2026. It was incredible to see such a strong field competing for national titles'.
It noted the event's 'great turnout', and the number of 'first-timers giving multi-sport events a go in a fun and supportive atmosphere'.
The club thanked its volunteers, saying their hard work made the day possible.
'Events like this simply could not happen without your time, energy and enthusiasm. We would also like to thank Triathlon Ireland, all the generous sponsors, and every athlete who came out to race and support the event. Pulling off a race of this scale takes months of planning and a huge team effort, and we’re incredibly proud of what was achieved together', the club acknowledged.
