Range of local events for Culture Night later this month
A range of local events will take place for Culture Night later this month.
The twenty-first edition of Culture Night will place on Friday, September 18, from 4pm til late.
Culture Night / Oíche Chultúir is a national moment, celebrating all that makes up the richness and diversity of Culture in Ireland today, connecting people to cultural activities locally and nationally and aims to open up pathways to ongoing engagement.
An all-island free programme of events, supported by the Arts Council and local Authorities, taking place on the second last Friday of September annually. Monksland
Monksland Community Centre will host 'The Chapter Clinic' from 6pm to 7.30pm.
The practical creative writing workshop for adults and young adults (16+) on how to craft a compelling opening chapter.
Led by novelist and writing tutor Martin J. P. Devaney, it explores character, voice, pacing and structure, and looks at what agents and publishers expect from a strong opening. Booking requested but not essential: contact 085 138 4776 or email bookings@martinjpdevaney.com
Knockcroghery
Culleen Hall will host a 'Heritage and Storytelling' event from 8pm to 9.30pm, which promises a night of local heritage and storytelling in the atmospheric Culleen Hall.
Clonown
Clonown Community Centre will host a lively, family-friendly celebration of poetry, music, song and magic, with writer Amy Abdullah Barry from 7pm to 8pm, featuring performances by Clonown NS school children playing musical instruments showcasing their musical talents.
Athlone
Luan Gallery will open late until 8pm and present a programme of free events designed to welcome audiences of all ages. Resident artists in Abbey Road Artists’ Studios will open their studios to the public and Athlone Photography Club will host an exhibition in the community space.
The programme aims to broaden access to contemporary visual art by creating opportunities for people to visit the gallery and studios outside normal opening hours, take part in creative activity and engage with the exhibition through making, conversation and guided interpretation.
Scheduled Guided Tours at Luan Gallery at 5pm, 6pm and 7pm (circa 30 mins per tour).
Guided tours of Allow to Fallow, Allow to Fall Low, a solo exhibition of newly commissioned work, by Westmeath artist, Fiona Kelly. The tours will give an overview of the artist’s practice and the exhibition’s themes.
