Prominent Castle Street properties added to Derelict Sites Register

A prominent pair of properties on Castle Street in Athlone have been added to the Derelict Sites Register.

A Notice of Making An Entry on the Derelict Sites Register was issued by Westmeath County Council on Friday, October 23, in relation to lands and premises at 4 and 5 Castle Street.

Under Section 8(7) of the Derelict Sites Act 1990, the property is now officially on the Derelict Sites Register.

The site outlined in red has been added to the Derelict Sites Register.

According to a previous Notice of Intention to Make Entry, posted in August of this year, the reasons for the entry included the "ruinous, derelict, or dangerous condition" of the site, the presence of litter, rubbish, debris or waste on the lands, as well as the "neglected unsightly or objectionable condition" of the land.

The Notice of Intention to Make Entry allows a one-month window for owners to make written representations or carry out specified remediation works.

The lands were added to the Derelict Sites Register on October 23.
