Community shock at death of young pregnant South Roscommon woman
The communities of South Roscommon and Athlone are reeling from shock this week following the death of Angeline Keegan and her unborn baby, who passed away suddenly on Friday last. Angeline, who was in her late 20s, and her baby daughter Mya were laid to rest in Drum Cemetery on Monday following Mass of the Resurrection in St Brigid's Church, Drum. The church was full of mourners who turned out to bid farewell to Angeline, whose untimely death hadshocked the South Roscommon community. Angeline, of Mullaghard, Dysart and Knockcroghery, reposed at her parent's residence in Dysart prior to her funeral. In her younger years the family had lived in Bealnamulla before moving to Dysart. Messages of support for her partner, parents and family as well as tributes to Angeline were left on announcements website www.rip.ie. Angeline was a past pupil of Cloonakilla National School in Bealnamulla and of Our Lady's Bower secondary school in Athlone. Angeline had suffered ill health in her younger years and this week she was described as someone who displayed great courage and perseverance in dealing with the hardships she met in life. Deputy Principal of Our Lady's Bower Noel Casey said this week: "Angeline Keegan was a pupil of Our Lady's Bower from 1998 to 2001. She is fondly remembered as a bright, busy, cheerful and friendly girl. Angeline had a mischievous glint in her eye and a thoroughly charming nature. "These qualities won her many friends among her peers and her teachers. The news of Angeline's untimely death shocked and saddened all at Our Lady's Bower, in particular those who knew her well." Local Independent Cllr Tony Ward told the Westmeath Independent: "I offer my deepest condolences to the Keegan family on the death of Angeline and her baby. "The community of South Roscommon is devastated with the news of her death. It's hard to comprehend. It has really shocked the community." Angeline is survived by her partner Denis, parents Peter and Bernie, siblings John, Joseph, Leeanne and Joanne, niece Jasmine and nephew Cody.
