Could you eat this? The Mighty Murph burger at Athlone pub Murphy's Law.

Athlone pub launches monster burger challenge!

After the success of its giant breakfast challenge, Athlone pub Murphy's Law has moved on to burgers... lots and lots of burgers.

Its new challenge is a mammoth mountain of beef called 'The Mighty Murph'.

The pub, which is located on Barrack Street, said The Mighty Murph consisted of 3lbs of beef burger and bacon, covered in melted cheese, topped with a fried egg and stacked on a sesame bap.

This is accompanied by a bucket of French fries, a bowl of chilli con carne, and - 'for the health conscious' - it is finished off with a touch of salad.

Anyone who manages the feat of eating all this in 30 minutes gets the meal for free and wins a t-shirt. Those who can't finish it all must pay €14.95.

The breakfast challenge (a ridiculously large 'full Irish' which again had to be eaten in half an hour)  was started at Murphy's Law last year. Well over 300 people have attempted it but only two - local man Kenny Buckley and US 'professional eater' Randall Santel - have completed it.

The first brave soul to try The Mighty Murph challenge did so on Tuesday. He didn't succeed.
