Another night of water restrictions for Athlone

Athlone is facing into yet another night of water restrictions, following a mechanical breakdown at the water treatment plant. Irish Water say this is a separate issue to the mechanical breakdown earlier in the week.

Irish Water and Westmeath County Council are advising customers in Athlone and surrounding areas that an overnight water restriction is necessary between midnight tonight (Thursday December 12) and 7am tomorrow morning (Friday December 13), in order to protect the water levels in Annagh reservoir.

Customers in the following areas will be affected tonight: Athlone town, Baylin, Mount Temple, The Ories, Garrycastle, Dublin Road, Ardnaglug, Fardrum, Moydrum, Blyry, Killyon Hill, Bonavalley and surrounding areas.

It is expected that supply will return to customers between 6am and 8am; however, it may take a number of hours for the water to restore to customers on higher ground or at the end of the network.

Some customers in Mount Temple may still be experiencing disruption to their water supply. An alternative water supply is being provided at Mount Temple, but customers availing of this alternative water supply are advised to boil the water prior to drinking, washing teeth or washing salads.

Irish Water's customer care helpline is open 24/7 on 1850 278 278.
