Roscommon & District Football League Round-up
Ballinasloe Town pulled off an impressive 3-2 win over Ballina Town to reach the fifth round of the Connacht Cup. After making the long journey to Ballina, Ballinasloe were 3-0 up at half-time. With just ten minutes played, Henry Loughnane threaded a ball through the home defence and Shane McInerney scored. Peter Keighery headed a Darragh Concannon free kick to the Ballina net, before Mark Duffy added a third. In the second half, the home side were on top with Kenny and O'Hara adding two goals with twenty minutes remaining. However, Ballinasloe Town held on to win.
In the Ruby Oil sponsored Premier Division of the Roscommon & District league, Moore Utd beat Castlerea Celtic 1-0 away. Leaders Shiven Rovers received the points from their home game against Strokestown Utd. And the Cloonfad v Kilkerrin Utd game was postponed due to a bereavement at Kilkerrin.
Third placed Skyvalley Rovers beat Loughglynn Utd 2-1 in a thriller at Onagh Park, Taughmaconnell. Vincent Walsh scored first for Loughglynn five minutes into the second half. David Grehan levelled the game before Loughglynn missed a penalty kick. David Grehan added his second from the penalty spot after Ollie Brooks was fouled and Brian Croffey cleared off the line near the end to secure a win for Skyvalley.
Ballymoe stretched their lead at the top of the Athlone Nissan Division 1 when they beat nearest challengers Glen Celtic 1-0. Rahara Rovers lost ground on the leaders when beaten 2-0 at home by Castlerea Celtic. With assistance from the brilliant Paul Martin, Ken Garvey broke the deadlock after twenty minutes and Packie O'Brien added a second near the end of the game.
Ahascragh Utd had an impressive 4-0 win over Shiven Rovers. Darren Smith and Shane Kenny gave the winners a half-time lead and Niall Hynes added two more in the second half.
St John's Athletic kept their promotion hopes alive with a hard earned 1-0 win over Moylough at Lecarrow. Peter Keogh finally got the better of an inspired Jack Mannion in the Moylough goal to snatch all the points.
On Wednesday night last, Castlerea Celtic beat an injury hit Roscommon Town side 3-2 under the lights at Castlerea.
In Division 2, Ballaghaderreen kept up their title challenge after beating Cam Celtic 6-2. Shane Towey scored three, Danny Browne got two and Gavin Conway one for the winners. Keith McLoughlin and Robert Kelly kept Cam Celtic in contention until well into the second half. Leaders Lisnamult Celtic beat second placed KC Celtic 5-3 at Kilconnell, while Ballinlough side Lough Harps beat CB Trotters 3-2. Skyvalley Rovers stretched their lead at the top of the Division 3 table to four points when they beat St John's Athletic 3-0 at Lecarrow. With Alan Blackweir in top form, Skyvalley Rovers won a penalty kick after 27 minutes and Liam Finneran scored from the spot. Patrick Moore added two more for the winners in the second half. Ballinagare drew 1-1 with second placed Cloonfad Utd, while CP Ajax beat Loughglynn Utd 3-1.
