Glasson Golf Club

President's Prize: Over 70 golfers turned out for Tom Reid's President's Prize which was held recently in Glasson Golf Club. This annual mixed competition was played over an 18-hole stableford qualifier, followed by a 6-hole playoff that was contested by 18 golfers. Philip Fagan was the best of the qualifiers with 38 points and his lead was unassailable despite the best efforts of everyone else in the playoff. Shotgun starts were introduced this year for both the qualifier and the playoff. Everyone was glad that when it rained, it rained on everyone at the same time! The shotgun starts also meant that there was great buzz in the hotel before and after the qualifier and during the playoff when those who didn't qualify enjoyed a BBQ meal. The results of the 2009 President's Prize at Glasson are as follows: 1st - Philip Fagan (47 points); 2nd - Tommy McArdle (44); 3rd - James Shivnan (44); 4th - Joe Kenny (44); 5th - Dympna Gillen (43); Leading Qualifier - Oisin Strong; Front Nine - Liam Higgins; Back Nine - Gilbert Barrington; Best Gross - Des Shine; Nearest the Pin - Mick O'Riordan; Straightest Drive - Caroline Barrett.
