FRIDAY, OCTOBER 25

Clonown Variety Group
The Clonown Variety Show is set for Friday and Saturday, October 25 and 26 at 8pm in Clonown Community Centre.
The show includes comedy, song and dance. Tickets cost €10 per person or €25 for a family ticket. Tickets are available from any committee member or from Jack (086 3559003) or Ann (087 2261096). A donation will be made to the Majella O’Donnell Cancer Appeal.


SATURDAY, OCTOBER 26

Ardnagrath National School 50th Anniversary Celebrations
Past and present pupils, parents, families, the wider community and all associated with the school are invited to The Gathering in the school on Saturday next, October 26, to join in the 50th anniversary celebrations. Mass will be celebrated at 3pm by Bishop Michael Smith, followed by the launch of the commemorative book. Light refreshments will be served, and for the children the magic show (and treats) will be available in the children’s marquee. The photographic exhibition will re-awaken memories for many people as will a visit to the nostalgic classroom where a collection of memorabilia and photographs will be on display. You can go back in time as you wander through the other classrooms and watch snippets of concerts, the fashion show, sporting achievements and the opening of the infant classroom in 1995 and the gym in 2006. This very special event will bring together many generations of people and everyone is welcome.

Craft Workshops
Crafty Adult and Children’s Workshops take place at Fernhill Garden Centre on Saturday, October 26, and Wednesday, October 30, from 11am to 1pm. Cost €15 per participant. Come along and enjoy a creative autumn with Syra Reid and Non Waters. Syra will be guiding adults in creating stunning Autumn wreaths and flower displays by using the natural beauty of our surrounding flora. Non will be showing children (5-12 years) how to make a series of fun and quirky leaf art projects with a potty halloween twist! Please book your place now as numbers are limited. Phone 090 6475574.

Fancy Dress Party
An important Fancy Dress Party to raise funds for local Cancer Support Services will take place at Millar’s Bar in Ballydangan, Athlone on Saturday night October 26. A number of other fundraising projects will be held in Moore parish on the same day. Your kind support would be appreciated.


SUNDAY, OCTOBER 27

Westmeath Chowder Cook Off and Halloween Hog Roast
A chowder competition takes place in The Fatted Calf this Sunday from 3pm to 5pm with a public vote to find the best chowder in Westmeath. This will be followed by a hog roast from 6pm to 7pm. Tickets priced at €10 include chowder tasting and and hog roast and are available from The Fatted Calf and on the day.

Halloween Fancy Dress
Buccaneers women’s team may have no fixture this bank holiday weekend but, nonetheless, they will be busy hosting a Halloween Fancy DressS event in The Bounty on this Sunday night, October 27. The theme for the occasion is Superheroes and Villains and there will be a prize for the best costume as well as spot prizes on the night. The entertainment, including DJ Aidan Higgins, gets under way at 8pm and cover charge is a mere €10. The women’s team play with passion on the pitch and, undoubtedly, they will put their collective shoulders to ensure the enjoyment and success of this Halloween event! So, folks, let’s see a big turnout for this social occasion in the club.

Cycle for Fun
A new Cycle for Fun group has begun in association with Roscommon Sports Partnership. Training every Sunday morning at 10am sharp from Clann na nGael club house, Johnstown. All ages and levels catered for.

Dancing for Pleasure
Takes place at Athlone GAA Centre every Sunday night from 9.30pm to 12am. All welcome.

Neven Maguire Cookery Demo
A cookery demo with Neven Maguire and Artisan Food Market & Craft Fair takes place at the Athlone Springs Hotel on Thursday, November 28. Doors open 6pm. The evening starts with Artisan Food Market & Craft Fair. Cookery Demonstration at 7.45pm with Neven Maguire. Mulled wine will be served on arrival and there will be a raffle on the night. Tickets priced at €22 are available from Athlone Springs Hotel or Supervalu Monksland. Organised by Cloonakilla N.S. Parents Association, Bealnamulla.

Christy Moore
Music lovers are in for a treat this December when Christy Moore comes to the Radisson Blu Hotel Athlone.
Christy will be joined on stage by Martin O’Connor, Cathal Hayden, Seamie O’Dowd and Jimmy Higgins for the show on Saturday, December 7. Doors open at 7pm and show begins at 8pm.
Fans can expect to hear all the old favourites - Nancy Spain, Ride On, Lisdoonvarna and of course the current, and very topical, single 'Arthurs Day’.
