Family of five rescued from sinking cruiser near Clonmacnoise

A local search and recovery group has carried out the rescue of a family of five from sinking cruiser near Clonmacnoise this week.

Offaly Search and Recovery were called out to the incident by An Garda Siochana and the coast guard on Wednesday, July 8, to assist in the rescue of a sinking private cruiser.

Divers were on the water on a training exercise and attended the scene promptly.

Due the size of the 50-foot boat, Offaly Search and Recovery's second boat was also required to carry out the rescue.

The boat was safely moored at Clonmacnoise, where the family and their dog Sally were all safe.
