'Who do you think you are?' event in Athlone

With many people now interested in exploring their family history, and following the recent release of the 1926 Census, this year there is a unique opportunity to learn how to carry out this research effectively with leading genealogist and author John Grenham.

This Heritage Week event, hosted by Connaught Street and Environs Community Group, promises to provide a great introduction to researching your own family tree and working with the wide variety of resources now available online. If you have ever wanted to answer the question, “Who do you think you are?”, this workshop may be the perfect way to find out! The event takes place on Tuesday, August 18, at 2pm in the Dean Crowe Theatre.

The event is part of a bumper programme organised by Connaught Street and Environs Community Group, strongly linked to this year’s theme, Heritage at Risk. The theme encourages people to explore, reimagine and protect heritage in all its forms – built, natural and cultural.

The range of activities in Connaught Street includes a Living Traditions Market exploring crafts and skills, an afternoon of poetry, and a chance to explore family history through a genealogy workshop.
