Offaly woman, believed to be Ireland's oldest person, dies aged 109

Coolderry woman Eileen 'Nell' Hynes, believed to be Ireland's oldest person, has passed away aged 109.

Nell celebrated her 109th birthday on December 15, having been born in the year 1916. She has been Ireland's oldest person since July 2025.

She will be sadly missed by her ten children P.J, Billy, Mary H, Flan, Donal, Sean, Michael, Teresa C.,Ger and Bernie L, her daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, good neighbours and wide circle of friends.

Nell will be reposing in Tierney's Funeral Home, Roscrea, on Saturday evening, June 6, from 4pm with removal at 8pm arriving in St.Ita's Church, Coolderry (R42 YW70) at 9pm.

Her Funeral Mass will be held on Sunday afternoon, June 7, at 1.30pm followed by burial in Dungar cemetery.
