Moate girls to represent Ireland in the Dance World Cup

Six students from a Moate dance school are set to represent Ireland in the Dance World Cup this week.

The competition is taking place in The Convention Centre Dublin (CCD) from today (Wednesday) to Saturday, July 18.

The local dancers from Leinster School of Dance which set to compete are Ruby McCabe, Cathy Ownes, Lino Halloran, Ellie Mae Grennan, Hannah Lowry, and Amira Reynolds.

The girls are sponsored by Spanners restaurant in Athlone. Spanners kindly invited the girls ahead of the competition to wish them the best of luck, and had plenty of treats for them to enjoy.

In 2004 the first Dance World Cup competition was formed and the junior dance took place for the first time in the theatre in Fuerstenfeldbruck near Munich, Germany. Ten international dance schools took part that year including schools from Israel, Nigeria and Mexico.

After 2004 it was decided that Dance World Cup would become an annual event taking place in a different country each year.

The Dance World Cup has over 120,000 children around the world aged from 4 to 25 trying to qualify in their country for the DWC World Finals which is held annually in a different location, previous locations for Dance World Cup include Portugal, Spain, Germany , Romania, England, Austria, Italy, France and Jersey.

The Dance World Cup has been described as “the best quality children and youths dance competition in the World” and the "Olympics of dance".
