Bishop Kirby calls for prayers for victims of Boston attack

Athlone native Bishop John Kirby has urged people to pray for the victims of Monday's bomb attack at the Boston Marathon.

The Bishop of Clonfert, who is chair of the Irish Bishops’ Council for Emigrants, called for prayers for those killed and injured in the explosions.

“It was with great sadness that I heard the news of the attack at the Boston Marathon. On behalf of the Irish Bishops’ Council for Emigrants, I offer my condolences and prayers to the people of Boston and to all those affected. I will offer Mass and pray for the victims and their families,” he said.

Bishop Kirby, a native of Baylough in Athlone, is head of a Diocese which incorporates areas such as Ballinasloe and Taughmaconnell.
