New €8m Aldi supermarket in Moate opens tomorrow

The new Aldi supermarket in Moate will open its doors to the public at 8am tomorrow (Thursday. October 29).

Some 30 new jobs have been created by the discount retailer as a result of the €8m development on the Athlone Road approach to Moate.

The branch will be Aldi's fifth in Westmeath, in addition to stores in Athlone, Mullingar (2) and Kinnegad.

Athlone resident Fiona Smith, who has been working for Aldi since 2012, has been appointed as manager of the new store.

The 1,171 square metre supermarket incorporates an in-store bakery and five self-service checkouts. Some 116 car parking spaces have been put in place, including four electric vehicle charging spaces.

Planning permission for the Moate store was granted by Westmeath County Council in November 2023.
